Third Week

I am very excited to introduce to my Geometry students the idea of script blogging in our classes. I am thinking of having a sign up sheet and allowing all students to choose which day they would prefer to blog about. I believe I am going to have this a manditory assignment to start out with and see where it goes. I am thinking of having that student script the days lesson and activities as well as explain to the class and everyone that reads the blog about at least one area in the real world that the lesson of the day would apply. I already talk about the essential questions/learning of that day and that would also need to be in the blog as well as the answer to that question. I think this might draw students into researching on their own and keeping an open mind about where the geometry I teach them does really apply in the outside world. My hopes are that this will give them another purpose for learning in my class.

Second Week of School

I was very excited the start a new website for my students and parents to visit when absent or forgot to write down their homework assignments. I think it will be just another avenue for students and parents and I to extend that communication to all be on the same page. I am going to announce this to all my students and am trying to figure out how to let all my parents know about this as well. Any ideas?? If you are curious about this free website (Krista Bretz) shared this with the math department...it is REALLY easy!!! Let me know if you are interested in trying it out :)

First Week of School

My first couple days of my new classes went pretty good. I ran into a problem this morning with my class of 35 in the LMC room with using the overhead projector and not having enough room to use it, therefore I have decided not to. It is so wonderful to see all my old students in my classes again and it is already wonderful learning all my new students. I am also debating whether or not to use all our new tools from our textbooks. I tried using the notebooks for students today, however I am finding that the kids don't like to use them!!! I was so shocked by this!!! For me, I don't think they are good because there is so much research out there saying that the more times students write things down again and again the more it is going to stick in their brain. With our new notebooks they just have to listen and fill in the blank. They will be a great resource, however for my students that have special needs and have a hard time taking notes. Overall, it was a good two days and I am excited for next week!!!

First assignment

I am not sure this is going to work because this is the second time I have tried to get my blogs to post :) Anyway, I am very excited to be a part of this committe and eager to get things rolling! I can't wait to use more technology in my classroom to try to engage my students more in teaching them the same content (just different) than the past. I am also excited to work with other people in the building and get a different perspective from other content areas.
